The Biography of ‘Ibn Qudaamah
…And I heard the Preserver of Narrations al-Yuuneenee, saying: ‘When I heard the ugliness of the creation (rise) against the Hambalees about Tashbeeh, I resolved to ask the Elder, the Reconciler (‘Ibn Qudaamah), and I remained months intending to ask him, so I went up the mountain with him. So when we were near the home of ‘Ibn Muhaarib, I said: ‘Oh my chief, what do you say is the biggest (issue) for my chief?’ So he said to me: ‘Tashbeeh is not possible’, so I said: ‘Is it not?’ He said: ‘Because from the conditions of Tashbeeh is that we see something, then we liken it (to something else)’. ‘Then who is he that has seen Allah, and then likened Him for us?’
