Al-Bahr al-Muhīt fī ‘Usūl al-Fiqh by Badr ad-Dīn az-Zarkashī
(745-794H/1344-1392M)Muhammad bin Bahādir bin Abd Allah az-Zarkashī, Abu Abd Allah, Badr ad-Dīn: Ālim in Shafi’ī Fiqh and ‘Usūl, Turkish in origin, born and died in Egypt.
He took Hadīth from al-Hāfith Maghlatā bin Qalīj. He took Recitation and Fiqh from al-‘Isnawī. He also heard from ‘Imād ad-Dīn Ibn Kathīr.
He intended to compile in his book on ‘Usūl al-Fiqh principles according to 7 schools: Shafi’ī, Hanafī, Malikī, Hanbalī, Thahirī, and Shī’ah.
He relied upon the following scholars and their respective books in ‘Usuul from each school as follows:
Shafi’ī

Mālikī

Thāhirīyah

Mu’tazilah
Al-‘Umdah and al-Mu’tamad by Abul-Husayn, al-Wādhih by Abu Yūsuf Abd as-Salām, an-Nukat by ‘Ibn al-‘Āridh.
Shī’ah
Ath-Tharī’ah by Sharīf ar-Radhī, al-Musādar by Mahmūd bin Alī al-Himsī.
